With Luffy, it's made clear early on that there are a DOZENS of people stronger than him, and Luffy has to rely on others just get close to Ace. If Spiderman is an overpowered, forced Messiah figure, I'll take simple but consistantly likeable Badass Superman anyday.īack on the topic at hand, the roles these two play in these arc are massively different. I call bullshit on the people who try to say Naruto is better on this arguement of "It's Spiderman (Naruto) over Superman (Luffy)!"īitch, please. Main Characters Role (I've made it clear that Luffy is-or has become-a significantly better protagonist than Naruto.
ONE PIECE MARINEFORD WAR ARC WHITEBEARD APPEARS SERIES
Some of you more cynical people may say this is shoddy, but for a series like Luffy, it works perfectly.ģ. In the end it's just Whitebeard, his crew and Luffy trying to save Ace, who they all see as family. In One Piece, it's very simple, and that's what makes it work. A story that started off with a fair bit of Grey morality is now a Preachy World Peace story just doesn't work, and that's ultimately what both sides are fighting for. Reason For War (I've often stated my disgust at what Naruto has become. Oh sure, Team 10, Gaara and Kankuro got a bit, but what about Lee? Or Ten Ten? Neji? Kiba? The great thing about the 'Sasuke Retrieval Arc' was the chance it used to show off the side cast, but with this arc Kishimoto just focused more on new characters that were.pretty uninteresting overall).Ĥ. With Naruto, Kishimoto missed a golden egg to develop some of his more long term supporting cast. That says a lot about the supporting cast of One Piece that can carry the series even when most of the main cast isn't there. despite only ONE main character being involved. Side Characters Role (y'know what's most impressive about this arc? It's regarded by many as the best One Piece arc of all time. So ladies and gents here are five reasons why One Piece got the War Arc right, whilst Naruto.well, fucked up.ĥ. In all honesty it only got good when the actual war aspect got dropped and it became mostly one-on-one fights. Whilst the Marineford Arc is regarded by many as the single best Arc of the series, The 4th Shinobi War.well, isn't. Naruto on the other hand has the ongoing 4th Shinobi War arc, which is the united Hidden Villages battle against The Akatsuki and their allied forces. One Piece had the Marineford Arc, the battle between the Navy and Whitebeards amy of Pirates to save his crewmate and surrogate son, Ace. If there was one area that could truly exemplify the vast difference in quality between these two series, its both of their handlings of the War Arcs.

I almost regret giving Naruto the point for better art in my comparison, since it probably doesn't even have that. I have never made it a secret that in both my objective analysis AND personal preference that One Piece is a vastly superior manga to Naruto.
